We facilitated a five days teachers training on Ocean Literacy hosted by the Ministry of Fisheries at the Aquarium in Swakopmund as part of the EduLink project from the 11th to 15th December 2023. 30 teachers from four regions (Erongo, Omaheke, Kunene and Otjozondjupa) participated in the workshop, the workshop focused was mainly on marine life, their sustainability, conservation perspectives and management. With a blend of civic education facilitated by NID and one health approach by Job Tjikongo from EduVentures.

Clearly, all participants were pleased to be part of the workshop, they claim that the workshop was very informative and created a sense of responsibility within them.

However, as part of the workshop programme, the participants had a an opportunity to visit the ORANO desalination plant, about 35 km out of Swakopmund towards Hentis Bay. During this excursion, they were taken through an induction phase were they were educated on how the ORANO team desalinate sea water and various challenges they are facing such as high costs of power.

All participants were handed with certificates of participation and a handful of goodies such T-shirts, shopping bags, pens, notebooks air phones and educational materials on ocean literacy. Merry Christmas & a Productive 2024. We will resume in January 2024. SODI Namibia Institute for Democracy
